A Utility foreman has 5+ years of experience digging around live utilities. Needs to be efficient on all equipment and can build a job from start to finish using plans and specs. Needs to possess strong leadership, and communication skills. Must be well-organized and focus on safety with the same value as production.
2. Responsibilities
Daily huddle to delegate daily tasks to team. Explain goals and hold each person accountable for these goals.
Clock in to busy-busy as soon as you arrive on the site. Check busy-busy at the end of each day to ensure personnel on each site are inputting time correctly and accurately. Phase codes, job number and hours.
Take 3 pictures each day of work completed. Also, pictures of equipment that needs maintenance and upload to busy-busy with a description. Ensure all personnel are complying with this policy also.
Track hours to complete for each project you oversee. If there is a problem in the hours bring it to the attention of the superintendent immediately.
Supervise and train workers in your team. If there is someone that is not effectively managing their time. Give them a written warning. If situation does not improve. Draft a 30 PIP Plan (Personal Improvement Plan) with the help of your superintendent. Re-evaluate after 30 days, if no improvement and send to HR immediately.
Understand materials allocated to each project. Order from pipe supply/ NDX trucking dispatch 2 days in advance of needing any material for your project.
Start and build job from beginning to end per plans and specs with minimal to no supervision.
Visually inspect equipment daily. Watch for operator error and/ or abuse of the equipment. Correct problems that arise with verbal warning, written warning and 30 PIP Plan.
Resolve problems when they arise.
Communicate daily with Superintendents regarding project progress and any up-coming needs
Make sure that your pickup is washed once every 2 weeks. All the equipment needs to be clean and free of debris and trash.
Schedule all maintenance of the foreman truck with shop foreman 2 days in advance. Picture any maintenance issues and upload with description to busy-busy.
Ensure projects are under/ meet estimated time and financial budget min 10% net profit.
Ensure as-builts are completed daily.
3. Requirements
5+ years of experience operating all equipment used in trenching and locating and installing utilities.
Understanding of Laborer, Skilled Laborer, and Operator Position Outlines and can apply them efficiently.
Ability to read drawings, plans, and blueprints
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Ability to communicate and report effectively
Aptitude in math/ Calculate slopes and percentages
Problem-solving abilities
Good physical condition and stamina/ Work in all weather conditions
Work, and ensure that your crew is working, in a safe manner, adhering to all OSHA and Company regulations
A valid OSHA-30 card must be maintained
A valid Dust Control Card must be maintained
A valid CPR Card must be maintained
A valid Driver’s License must be maintained
A valid competent person card
Must be confined space trained and certified
4. NDX Provided Items
Hard hat. Reflective work vest. Gloves. Safety glasses. Ear protection. Each item is replaced quarterly.
Large tools such as sledgehammers, pics and digging bars.
NDX does not support pay advances or loans of any kind.
5. Employee Provided Items
Reliable transportation.
Personal broom and shovels. Shovels need to be a flat nose and round nose.
Personal tape measure preferably tenths and inches (Engineers)
6. Other items to note
Employee will receive a copy of the NDX safety and regulations manual.
Employee will sign an agreement which states you agree and will follow manuals.
You will be on a probationary period for 90 Days from hire date.
Reviews will take place within the first- two weeks of each quarter.
Financial reviews may be requested one time in a calendar year period to evaluate.
